Denver’s Next Nightclub Star 4 – Information Summary

General Info:  Denver’s Next Nightclub Star 4 (DNNS4) is an “American Idol” style karaoke contest where 40 contestants compete over a 13 week period until one emerges as the overall winner. The contestants will initially be placed on 2 teams (after the two tryout dates 3/12 & 3/17,) on 3/24; each performing one song solo as part of their group nightly;  judged by our three team panel in two categories: Voice and Stage Presence, on a 1-10 scale.

In Set 1 (3/24, 3/31, 4/05, 4/12, 4/19, and 4/26): One person from each team will be eliminated from the contest; one with the lowest overall votes cast by the audience for their solo performances and one by the 3 judge panel. See below for Audience and Judge voting rules. The person with the highest audience total votes will be that night’s winner see prizes below) and will be exempt from losing the next week.

In Set 2 – Semi- Finals (5/3, 5/10, and 5/17): The remaining 10 singers will b reassigned into two new teams for the second set. On 5/3 and 5/10; One person from each team will be eliminated from the contest; one with the lowest overall votes cast by the audience for their solo and group performances and one by the 3 judge panel. See below for Audience and Judge voting rules. On 5/17, two contestants will be eliminated based on their solo performance and 1 additional contestant from the losing group performance (as determined by the 3 judge panel); leaving 4 finalists to compete on 5/27 for the top two prizes. One nightly winner will be chosen as in the first round.

 

The finals will be on 5/27, where the top 4 contestants will compete for a Grand prize and runner up prize (see prizes below). The vote on the final night will be 70% audience (1 vote per entry fee paid) and 30 % judges (based on a 10 point scale, stage and voice- total points in both categories).

 

Eligibility:

  • Contestants must be over 18 to take part.
  • No professional singers allowed (i.e. primary source of income from performing/judges call)
  • Employees, friends or family members  of 3rd Millennium Group, Performance venues, Music Buzz, Blue Velvet Studios, or any of the events sponsors; are not allowed.
  • Previous winners of British Idol, DNNS1, 2 and 3, DNKS, and DNNS Diamonds are not eligible. Previous runner –ups are welcome.
  • Top 40 Contestants must fill out a DNNS 4 application and background form. $20 fee. If they have paid fee by 1/29 there picture will appear in the February issue of Music Buzz I the DNNS4 AD.
  • Entry fee is $30 for TOP 20 contestants (due March 17th) who will at a minimum get to perform on the big stage at the Little Ireland Music Festival (up to 4,200 audiences) and the first competition night on March 22nd. The top 20 will be pictured in the March issue of Music Buzz (15,000 copies, 650 + Locations I the front range, and on websites).

Voting Rules:

  • Ballot: A ballot will allow the audience voter to vote as follows
    • Sets 1 & 2 – 1 Ballot, vote for 1 singer in each group.
    • Set 3 (Semi-finals) and Final – 1 Ballot, vote for your favorite singer.

 

Customers can purchase up to 5 ballots (from the various methods below; except at finals which is limited to 1 vote per entry fee) as they desire. 

  • 1 Cover charge fee = 1 ballot.
  • 1 Drink purchase = 1 ballot.
  • 1 Food purchase = 1 ballot.
  • 1 Bottle purchase (750ml) = 5 ballots.
  • 1 Wrist Band = 2 ballots
  • Open tryouts, by appointment, will be conducted on various dates to determine up to 40 contestants. 
  • 5/12 will be an open Karaoke night at Park Center Lounge in Westminster, CO, for up to 20   contestants to be selected by the three judge panel and for open contest that night.
  • 5/17 will be an open try out date at our St. Patty’s Day event (22nd and BLAKE in LODO) where the top 40 contestants selected from above are required to compete. The audience (any paying customer at our St. Patty’s Day event – up to 6,200 people) will choose 15 contestants and the judges will choose five. These top 20 contestants will be split into two teams to start the competition round on 3/22/12. See contest dates, times, and themes below. ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
  • Competition Rounds begin March 22 and end with the semi finals on May 17th.
  • The finals will be on May 27.
  • Three or Four Judges will review and comment on each performer and vote (along with audience) at end of the all performances. Judges will pick one contestant to be eliminated each week during the first set (March 22nd through May 17th). On 5/17, the judges will eliminate an additional performer from the group that has the worst performance of the evening along with the regular elimination for the solo worst performer. On finals night, the judges have 30% of the vote, the audience has 70% of the vote.  Audience voters can vote multiple times by purchasing vote tickets with food, beverage, and swag items as listed below- except on finals night, when they will have only one vote.
  • The winner for the evening will be the performer (except finals) with the most votes from the audience- prizes as listed below. Exact vote totals for the evening will be posted on line and at the next week’s performance. Accumulated weekly votes will also be posted. The winner of the evening is exempt from the judge’s elimination vote during non final weeks.
  • Weekly schedule of themes, number of songs, and cut levels on attached spread sheet, and available on line.
  • Contestants required dressing for the theme each week. Backstage available for makeup and changing.
  • Contestants will submit song(s) (PLEASE KEEP SONGS UNDER 4 MINUTES) to Doug @ dws2121962@yahoo.com by Monday of week preceding the next Thursday performance. Schedule will be sent out to contestants by Wednesday of week preceding the next Tuesday.

 

 

Prizes:  After the two tryout dates (3/12 & 3/17), one overall winner will be chosen for each nightly performance. The winner will be the contestant who receives the most overall votes that night. This person will receive at a minimum: 1 Bottle service from TBD location ($250 value), 2 tickets to the hosting venue’s show, a wine tasting for four from the Wine Guy, 1 spa session  from  TBD salon, 1 tanning session from Zolarium, various coupons for free or 2 for 1 offers.

Two Overall winners will be chosen at the finals on 5/27/12.

Grand Prize: $1,000 cash.  Recording and Photo shoot from our partner studio. Placement in 3MARTISTS website with QR code enabled song dot card. Wine Tasting for 12 people. Spa service. Tanning Service. Gift Certificates from Park Centre Lounge, Brendon’s, Lil’ Pubs.

Runner up Prize:  Limo Bus for an evening out including: Limo bus for 20 for 5 hours, Bottle Service from Spill, stocked bar, for the event.  Recording and Photo shoot from Ice House Studio’s. Wine Tasting for 8 people. Spa service. Tanning Service.   Gift Certificates from various sponsors.

Cover Charge: There is a $6.00 cover charge at the door in set 1 and 2 & $10.00 at the final; with the net proceeds going to our designated charity – to be announced on March 1st- please visit the DNNS Facebook Fan page for complete info on the contest and weekly updates).Three packs of tickets (for each set), can be purchased in advance for $15 for set 1 and 2; $25 for set 3. Contestants bringing five friends receive their cover charge free. On the final evening; the cover charge is $10. Finalists do not have to pay a cover charge on 5/23.

Contestant Notes:

Team Leader: Contestants will choose a team leader before the first song on night one. The team leader is responsible for making sure song selections are in to the producer for solo and group songs by the deadline. The team leader is also responsible for making sure each team member is on time for their stage call, rehearsals, etc. and will be the liaison to the stage manager for these purposes.

Song selections: Contestants are required to provide the producer with their weekly song (steelesmith212@gmail.com) the Friday after each Tuesday performance. The song must be relevant to the themes listed in the schedule grid above. A Karaoke machine is provided for contestants to use in set 1. Set 2 and finals will require each contestant to bring a CD, MP3, or other recorded track, sans words or back up singing. Please keep song choices under 4 minutes in Set 1, 5 minutes in Set 2, and 6 minutes in Set 3 (group songs will be handled on case by case basis).

Costumes: Contestants are encourages dressing up in costumes relevant to the theme and particular artist they have chosen to perform as. There is a backstage area for each contestant and a makeup artist to use to prepare for their performance.   Please be advised our talent show is pg-13 rated! Please keep those cloths on!!

Back up Instruments and performers: Both are allowed, after set 1, providing no singing is done by the backups.
